Education For The Poor (EFTP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established by a group of professionals who aspired to provide a long term cure to the poverty situation in Vietnam by giving educational assistance to the poor. To maximize the impact of our assistance, we concentrate our efforts on only a few areas that immediately and directly benefit students, namely providing scholarships, creating educational clubs, and improving the English skills and education of the underprivileged.

In light of the recent influx of foreign investments into Vietnam and the increasing globalization of the world's economic order, English has become crucial to forging a better future. In regard to improving the English skills and education of underprivileged students, EFTP has started to send volunteers to teach English in Vietnam during the summer since 2006. The program benefits many students, especially during the last few years when approximately 1500 students were able to participate in the program every summer. In addition to English, we also hosted a short session in Accounting to further improve our students' chance to find a job with foreign companies. Finally, to help students expand their knowledge base, gain up-to-date knowledge of technological advancements, and continue improving their English skills year-round, we have also initiated the creation of Educational Learning Centers.

In regard to scholarships, EFTP holds the belief that we need to "cultivate a tree until it yields fruits", and as such we continue to give scholarships to recipients until they graduate.

EFTP would like to give underprivileged students equal footing in the search of a better future. But to fulfill our mission, we need your support. Your contributions not only benefit underprivileged students, but also the many generations to come - their children and their children's children, because these students' success will end the intergenerational transmission of poverty that they have previously endured. Please donate now. All contributions are tax deductible.

Our Mission
Co-xuan It is our mission to help underprivileged students in Vietnam unlock their potential and overcome poverty through education. We aim to provide more than financial assistance to the poor; we also want to help them gain up-to-date knowledge of the 21st century in order to catch up with the technological advancement of the world.

President's Letter to volunteers of the Summer English Program

Dear Volunteer,

We are very happy and grateful for your interest in the work of Education for the Poor and for your desire to work with us to improve the life of students in Vietnam. Serving the less fortunate through Education For The Poor since its inception in 2005 has helped us understand the urgency of the situation and the resilience and tenacity of the young people who have gone through so much, yet have refused to be defeated in their march for a better life.

Entering this program, you may wonder whether we can successfully help individuals understand and learn English in just 5 weeks. I would like to assure you that this mission is feasible. I strongly believe that with our love and dedication, we will be able to leave quite a legacy after our departure. Albert Pike has said, "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." Likewise, Nelson Henderson has also said, "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." EFTP believes that, whatever you can give your students this coming summer session is a very special gift and will make a lasting impression in their search for a better life.

On behalf of all the members of Education for the Poor, I would like to welcome you to our program. Let us give the young people in Vietnam our best, and let us come into the program with careful preparation and a strong desire to succeed. Let us let our life be a message of "YES, YOU CAN."

Sincerely,
Hung Hoang
President
